FORTY-TWO YEARS AGO.

(Extracts from the Manawatu Herald dated September 9th. 1597.)

Hydrabad. — In about a week or more all the cargo from this ill fated vessel will have been removed to the ship Matilda at Kapiti, the last locomotive having been put-on the Samson today. Only some light material now remains to be taken, and very soon all business connected with one of the most remarkable wrecks on this coast will be finished. Wimkino estate. — We understand it is intended shortly to cut up a large block of the Wirokino estate/ and throw it’open to small farmers. A township will eventually lie laid off in the centre of the block, through which the railway to Wellington will run.
