“HELP THE MOTHERS.”

A scout party of the “Western Engineers” (Palmerston N.) visited Foxton yesterday. They solicited assistance from a local resident, who informed them that if they could get another resident to donate £lO he would cover it with his own cheque for £lO, making £2O in all. Within twenty minutes they returned, much to the surprise of the resident, with a cheque from another local resident for £lO, and gathered in the conditional cheque. The “Engineers” decided to pay half to Foxton’s quota, and the other half will be added to the “Engineer’s” effort on behalf of the same fund. Both donors are heartily thanked for their splendid contributions. Foxton promised a minimum of £IOO, and we are now assured of this sum being forwarded. Everyone who enjoys a dance, and those who can’t dance, are cordially invited to attend the “HardUp” Dance in the Town Hall tomorrow night. A real good time iassured, and the Committee of ladies hope to augment the funds by another £lO as a result of the effort. The Foxton effort closes on Saturday, and all who have not yet contributed are invited to do so by that day.

All who have badges on sale are requested to hand in their returns and unsold badges to Mis< Sewell, at the “Herald” Office, not later than Monday.
