FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.

The following is the annual report of the above club, to be presented at to-night’s annual meeting^—

“Your Committee have pleasure in submitting the annual report and balance-sheet. The total receipts for the season 1020-1921 are £145 13s od, an increase of £ll 6s 6d on last year. The expenditure amounted to £lB4 5s Od. Members may consider this amount large, but when there is taken into consideration the heavy expenditure outside the immediate and ordinary expenses in connection with the green, members will readily see that the amount is not excessive. the inefficient supply of water, your Committee decided to purchase an engine for pumping purposes. This has been installed, together with accessories, at the cost of about £6O, an expenditure which will not recur next year. During the coming season members can look forward to playing on a green, instead of a “brown.” The membership for the season was 60, made up of 20 active and 40 -passive members. Croquet: Twenty-live active and 14 passive members. The opening of the green last season was one of the most successful functions ever held by the Club. Almost every club in the Centre was represented, besides individuals from outside centres — Wellington, Wanganui and Hawke’s Bay. The Club was represented in almost every opening in the Centre. Very little visiting was done during the past season, and your Committee urge that many home and home visits be arranged, without which the goodfellowship now existing among bowlers will gradually fade away and die. The new catering arrangement entered into was quite satisfactory, and your Committee recommend its continuance. The Gala Day arranged by the Centre is, in the opinion of your Committee, a slop in the right direction, and it is hoped that the practice will he continued. The Triangular Shield Competition again created great interest among the three clubs, and after keen contests was won by Shannon, and we congratulate them on their victory, and hope to turn the tables on them next year. The Nye Ferns, Stevenson Penants and Club Pins were all keenly contested for throughout the season. These local competitions go a long way to sustain the interest among members. During the coming season a fourth competition will be added to the list, in the shape of a handsome silver cup kindly donated by the Hon. T. M. Wilford, M.P., and we sincerely thank the donor for the handsome trophy, and hope to again have the pleasure of his presence on the green. Unfortunately, last season the Club did not take part in any of the outside competitions, viz., the Dixon Cup, Munson and Barr and Hurn Cups, and Champion of Champions competitions, and your Committee recommend to the incoming Committee the advisability of contesting these competitions during the coming season. Recommendations in connection with the Dixon Cup have been forwarded to the Centre, which, if given effect to, should lie a decided improvement on existing arrangements. Local tournaments were held on the green during Christmas and New Year, and proved highly successful. Your Commit Ice recommend that; Messrs J. P. Smith and D. Whibley be elected lion, life members of I lie Club, both having done voeinan service to the Club; Mr -I. P. Smith, of Napier, for his excellent work on the green, despite much inconvenience to himself (he levelled and topdressed the green without any expense whatsoever to the Club), Mr D. Whibley, who since the inception of the Club, has attended the flowers and devoted a great deal of his valuable time in making the surroundings of the green a pleasure to view. Your Committee strongly recommend the appointment of delegates to the Centre who can attend Centre meetings, preferably those with motor cars, or in the alternative, the Centre meetings he altered to meet on Wednesdays in lieu of Tuesdays. Your Committee regrets to record the death of Messrs J. H. Robinson and P. Ilennessy, the latter being one of the promoters of your Club. The members of the Committee now retire, and are elegihle for re-elec-tion, but are of opinion that new blood introduced will lie a step in the right direction. The thanks of the Clnli are due to the ladies for their untiring supervision of the catering, as without it meeting on the green would undoubtedly lose a great deal of its charm. In conclusion, your Committee desire to thank all members who in any way assisted with the work of the green, and trust that the coining season will lie a highly successful and enjoyable one.”

The balance-sheet showed a total receipts of £205 14s sd, including members’ subscriptions £IOO 12s Od, croquet members’ subscriptions £26 10s, and Rank overdraft £143 16s 4d. The statement of assets and liabilities shows a balance of assets over liabilities of £4OO 2s 7d.
