LEVIN TO EKETAHUNA.
SUGGESTED TRACK ACROSS RANGES.
* Some years ago there was talk of connecting up Levin and*Eketahuna by means of a track across the ranges. The matter was revived at Monday night’s meeting of the Levin Chamber of Commerce by Mr Rimmer, who said he understood only ten or twenty miles of track were needed to complete the route. This would be a good thing, and would open up the country and allow stock to come over to the local sales. Mr C. H. Bould said he had been over this country, and it was quite possible to bring stock through, though a good deal of work would be needed to make the route practicable. Several rivers would have to he crossed. From a tourist and sight-seeing point of view Hie track would be a good idea.
Air M. Alorten.sen said there had been several attempts to open up this route for stock. There was ten miles of track necessary at this end, three farther on towards Mnngahao, and how much at. the Eketakuna end he did uot know. It was there the real difficulties began. He questioned whether the benefits derived would be compensation for ihc expenditure neeessa ry. Mr Mntheson said he understood Mr F. G. Roe had some information about the matter, and he suggested thal the Chamber should get in touch with Eketaliuna. It was agreed to write to th* Eketaimna Chamber on the subject. —Chronicle.
