ROYAL PICTURES.
Novel readers will well remember Phillip Oppenheiig’s popular story, “Anna the Adventuress.” There is not a dull moment in it, and the Suspense holds to the end. In picture form the story is equally, or even more engrossing, and given perfect acting, beautiful settings in both London and Paris, the Hepworth Company have made a truly great picture of the novel, and have produced one of the best English pictures to date. Throughout the acting is remarkably good. Alma Taylor has many opportunities as the twin sisters, Anna and Annabel, and she never misses one of them, portraying the characteristics of the two women with a faithfulness which is worthy of the highest recommendation. This lecture will be shown to-night (Tuesday). For Wednesday evening, “The Bait,” a Maurice Houmeur Paramount. picture will be screened. “The Bait begins with a thrill —a shooting fray in the dark, that starts the mystery ball rolling —and keeps up a breath —taking pace right up to the final close-up. Along with the spirited action, an appealing romance develops. The heroine is a pretty shopgirl, who is “framed” by a master ('rook so that she will come under his power. Then, when he has won her gratitude by a seemingly kind act, he tries to use her as a pawn in a game to blackmail a young millionaire. “The Bait” blends melodrama, a love story and mystery in a manner that cannot fail to please.
