ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Foxton charge of the Presbyterian Church was held in the local church last night, The Rev. Thomas Halliday presided over a fair and rc presenfative attendance of members. The Session report referred to the removal*of certain families during the year, to the good work of the Sabbath schools and various church organisations, and spoke hopefully of the coming year. The local committee recorded a record financial year; the minister’s stipend had been raised to £3OO, and he had also been given a present of £SO. Improvements had been carried out to the church grounds, and a new bell had been purchased. It was hoped to re-cover the church roof during the coming year. The Ladies’ Social Guild was in a good financial position; a garden parly had resulted in £22 being forwarded to the orphanages; the Guild also donated £3 for Sunday school prizcs; £7 10s for pulpit chair, and £ls to the managers towards the church funds, while the social side of church life was a prominent feature. The Bible Class conducted by the minister every Sabbath evening had an average of twelve members. Glen Oroua by special effort had raised. £24 10s, and the work had gone on steadily in that locality, liangiotu reported good progress in the several organisations, and financially, C 33 had been raised by special canvass. The total receipts l for the year were £4OO 15s sd, and expenditure £4GB Is 3d, leaving a credit bal r ance of £5 7s 4d, including credit balance of £3 13s 2d carried over from last year. The assets totalled t’3,SGG 7s 4d, and outstanding liabilities £3O 2s lid.
The reports and balance-sheet were submitted. Mr Alex. Spoil's presented the Session’s report. Mr \V. Renton, general treasurer, mentioned that it was a record financial year, over £473 being contributed during the year. Mr A. F. Stevenson gave in the local Committee’s report. In a nice little speech Mr J. M. Barr complimented the church Mu its sound financial position, and also passed a word of praise to the faithful services of the Rev. and Mrs Ilallidoy. Mr John Ross moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Sunda v school staff.
Short congratulatory speeches were made by the Rev. Mr Minitic (Methodist) and Captain Tong (Salvation Army).
During the evening I lie combined choirs of Rangiotu and Foxton rendered three anlhems with great acceptance. Mis< Mona MeEwau and Mrs Patterson sang solos, and Miss Nellie liicu gave a recitation. The Misses Patterson and Claris rendered a pianoforte duet. Mrs Claris presided at the organ. The following local committee was elected: —Messrs Jas. Ross, .John Eo>s, J. M. Barr, R. Spoils, Clark, Titos. Henderson, Slade, 1). Knewstuh, and R. Parkes.
At the conclusion, a most enjoyable social time was spent. Refreshments were provided by the ladies of the local church.
