ROYAL PICTURES.

On Wednesday, Wallace Reid, the Paramount favourite, will appear in a. corking comedy, “the Charm School.” When Austin Bevans, an automobile salesman, makes love to Susie Rolles, an aristocratic society girl, her mother protests on the grounds that he lackg breeding, and financial prospects. Austin inherits from his aunt, Polly Bevans, a young Indies’ school, with buildings, appointments, pupils, and all. Acting on the theory that young women should have no object in life other than to be charming, Austin takes over the school and becomes its superintendent. He interests Homer Johns, a bank president, who has a grand-daughter m the school, and who hacks Austin s ideas with capital. Austin then opens what he calls “The Charm School.” Elisc, Johns’ grand-daughter, falls in love with Austin, but lie does not take her seriously. Austin’s idea is a success, despite the opposition of several teachers, who, having contracts, cannot be discharged. George Boyd, a. bookkeeper in John’s bank, long has loved Elise, and he becomes jealous of Austin, who soon realises that he loves the girl. Austin discovers some love notes addressed by Boyd to Elise, and goes to inform Johns. One of the teachers finds a will left by Austin’s aunt, by which the school is devised to Miss Hayes, another teacher. When Austin reaches the Johns’ home, he finds a dance in progress. Johns tells Mrs Rolles and Susie that he has decided to offer Austin £25,000 a year to reorganise his banks in the west. this causes Mrs Rolles to change her mind about Austin, and she urges Susie to “catch” him for a husband, from which on the tangle becomes complicated, and, of course, cupid sees that tilings are finally straightened out, with much humour in the process. A Mack Sennett comedy is also included in the programme, and a further episode of “The Silent Avenger.” Prices as usual.
