It is anticipated that the municipal motor bu* service in Palmerston North will be in operation in a fortnight's time. The Foxion slander action, F. D. Whible.y v. G. C. Coley, is set down for hearing at Palmerston to-mor-row. The ease is a rousing a fair amount of local interest. Mr F. Rout, of the Foxton-Shan-iioii mail and passenger service, was able to resume a complete motor connection between Shannon and foxion yesterday. This fact will be appreciated by the travelling public.
A sad shooting accident is reported from Hukanui, near Eketiibunn. It appears that two young children of Mr F. T. Bliss in some way got "hold of a gun. and it discharged, with the result ’ that one young child was fatally shot. The late Mr C. C. Hutton, of Wanganui, was a son of Mr J. A. Hutton, formerly Chief Postmaster ar Wellington, and afterwards for some years a resident of Gvoytown. He was one'of the most brilliant pupils of the Otago Boys’ School, and a distinguished graduate of Otago University.
“Can you tell me a, reason why any person should try to get into your" strong-robin'?” a witness was asked during the hearing of a burglary case at the Palmerston North Supreme Court on Tuesday. “No, 1 can’t,” retorted the witness immediately. “I took it as a compliment, seeing how bad business is.”
At an informal meeting-of Natives at Tc Ore Ore, on Sunday, Ratana, the Maori faith-healer, raid personally he preferred to euro white people, as they had more faith and determination than his own people, who were more liable to despondency. But his duty was first to the Native people, after which lie would lie prepared to meet white people; until then he advised them to write to Jiim at his home at Marten. The Native must come first.
Many curious letters are received by trades union secretaries from time to time. One to hand in Auckland last, week was from a Maori in the country, asking for work. The hand-writing was good, but the wording quaint, yet to the point. It runs: “July 22/6/21. Sir. —I have to inform you that I have decided to ask your permission to get me job as soon as possible.
