An apple or other hard fruit or vegetable after a meal is an excellent detergent; ami good wholemeal bread, well chewed, during the meal will assist the general health of the tecta by giving them the exercise which encourages their due blood supply. The Frenchman washes his mouth after a meal. The'washing is a valuable practice because it removes the remnants 6f sugar and starch foods which are liable to fermentation. But, as already mentioned, some surer method of disinfection and mechanical cleansing is essential, and if this can be associated with stimulation of the gums, so mucli the better.
