FOXTON RACING CLUB

The following is the annual report to lie submitted at to-morrow night’s annual meeting of the Foxlon Racing Club: — “Your Committee have pleasure in presenting the report and balancesheet for the period ending 30th June, 1921, and which shows the Club |o lie in a thoroughly satisfactory position. The race meeting in January lasi was one of the most enjoyable and successful yet held by the Club. Stakes to the amount of £3,700 wore given for the two days (an increase of £I,OOO on the previous year), and, favoured by delightful weather, everything went off most successfully. The totalise tor turnover reached £08,731, the previous year being £57,259. The nominations, privileges, gates, etc., all showed a marked increase. During the year the Club made application for a permit for a one-day steeplechase meeting. In connection with this, the report of the Racing Commission is not yet known. The Racing Commission visited Foxton in December last, and it was pointed out that the Racing Track was not 00 feet wide, as required, in places. Immediately after the race meeting this work was put in hand, and is now in progress of completion. As passed by resolution ot the last annual meeting, the Club has been ‘lncorporated under the Act of 1908/’ and new Rules have been drawn up and adopted. As per Rule 22, the retiring stewards, Alessrs J. V. Burr, R. Bryant and W. Petrie, are eligible for re-election. Owing to probably leaving the district, Air Petrie has decided not. to stand for re-election, and the following nominations have been received : —'Messrs J. V. Burr, R. Bryant, Earl Bryant, W. Neylon, C. A. Pearson, A. N. Smith, F. D. Whibley. In conclusion, your stewards desire to congratulate members on the satisfactory position of the Cluli, and furl her, to acknowledge and place on record the complimentary Press notices and encomiums passed by visitors as to the excellent appointments for the convenience of the public, and the pleasant surroundings. Here is an excerpt by ‘Wayfarer/ published in the Referee under date February 4th: — ‘The Foxton fixture is one of the few meetings in the country that retains the delightful picnic character and surroundings*that were common enough 40 or 50 years ago Those who take their racing as a recreation, as a bodily and mental rest . . . have it under ideal conditions here.’ ”

The following notice of motion will be moved by Mr F. D. Whihley: —“That Hale 22 he rescinded and the folknving substituted: That at eveiV annual meeting the President, vice-presidents, treasurer, and all members of committee shall retire, hut shall he eligible for re-election, provided they arc again nominated as provided hereunder. Nominations for these positions shall close will) the secretary not later than July 10th in each year.”

The balance-sheet for the past year shows a credit balance at Bank of NeAv Zealand on June 30th, 1021, of £562 3s Od; the total receipts for the year, from all sources, were £10,712 19s 7d. The statement of assets and liabilities shows a balance of assets over liabilities amounting to £5,704 18s Od.
