BIG BLAZE AT PALMERSTON N.

DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £B,OOO.
Palmerston North’s twenty-first fire in 1921 occurred on Saturday night in the premises of C. M. Ross and Co., Ltd., drapers, in the Square . The fire, the origin of which is a mystery, started in the millinery workroom upstairs. The brigade made a good save, preventing the_sprend of the ilnmes to other wooden portions of the building.
The millinery workroom was gutled, a large quantity of new season’s goods being destroyed. The damage in this department is estimated at from £3OO to £SOO. The workroom’s contents were not insured. Water damaged the stocks in the boot department, and the men’s mercery and clothing departments to the extent of £B,OOO. The insurance on (hesc departments is £15,000.
