VISIT TO CORNWALL AND DEVON. SOME QUAINT RENT PAYMENTS.
Quaint ceremonies took place in practically every town and village during the Prince of Wales’ recent visit. The whole of Devon and Cornwall was wildly enthusiastic, and revived all the ancient customs of the West Country for his entertainment.
When he visited Launceston, the capital of his Duchy of Cornwall, the Prince received Ihe following rents from his (ennuis: — The Mayor of Launceston, lib. of pepper.
Sir Hugh MoJesworlli St. Aubyn, for the 'Manor of Ycryan, a pair of greyhounds.
Sir Thehawke IT. Kekewieh, for St, Truly, a pair of gilded spurs. The City of Truro Corporation, a bow of alder. Mr Swanneeott, for Week St. Mary, a goat’s skin mantle.
Mr Edmund Lync, the Prince’s oldest lonatit (who still rides a pony at the age of 90), for the tenement of Kingston, one salmon spear and faggot of wood. Captain S. Rodd, for Northill, Mb. of cummin.
Mrs Saunders, for Goseot, Week St. Mary, red rose and a pair of while gloves.
After lire rents had been paid the Prince thanked the lenanls, and continued their tenancies, giving to each a white rod.
