THE Minister of Custom- (the lion. W." Downie Stewart) made available yesterday" the following return showing the total value of the imports into and the exports I‘rofii New Zealand during the six months ended 30th June, 1020, and 1021 respectively : 1920 1021
Imports 24,108,074 28.100,867 Exports 22,824,782 27,204,807 The figures disclose on improved situation for the first six months of this year.as compared with the corresponding period of 1920. Whereas in the six months of 1920 imports exceeded exports by £1,373,802, the “debit” for the six months of this year has fallen to £980,060. It is also worthy of note that while imports have increased by £3,092,193 in value, the exports value has improved by £4,379,835. The latter improvement is of especial interest when it is remembered that there lias been a fall in the price of everything exported from New Zealand except butter and cheese, the prices for which recently receded; but recovered slightly owing to the drought in Great Britain.
