“HANGED" MAN LIVES
ESCAPE AFTER EXECUTION
There is a man wlut has been "hanged" and .vet lives. The story eouics from Ireland, and is one of the daily dramas of the “war” between Sinn Feiners and the Crown forces.
The man is Captain Sniytlio, who appeared before the Dublin Recorder in an application for compensation. He said he was taken to a stable and hanged by the neck. When supposed tu be dead he was cut down. Recovering consciousness in* the morning, and hading a revolver still in his possession, he shot his guard, a boy, and escaped. lie was pursued by two men, who tired on him. A bullet grazed his leg, but he succeeded in evading his pursuers.
It was stated by counsel that Captain Smytlie was now a nervous wreck, and could not speak without a stutter. The recorder awarded £I,BOO compensation.
