THE OLD CEMETERY
Already a marked inprovement is being made in Ihe scheme to beautify the old cemetery. The concrete fence will give tbe scclion an ornate appearance. The hill him been pegged off for sloping and levelling, and this work will be put in hand as soon as Mr Black’s plans come to hand. An iron gate will be fixed at the entrance, and paths laid down to encircle the reserve, Several of the Maoris interested have given inMruclions to cement over and otherwise improve the resting place of a number of their relatives. In making the excavations on the hill, every care will be taken not to disturb any burial plots. We are informed that a mistake Ims been made in transferring tho old cemetery site from the Maori owners to the Borough Council. It appears'that the land transferred to the Council is the vacant- section at the rear of the old cemetery, and not the latter, as was specified.
