HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER.
PROGRESS OF WEST COAST BOARD.
Mr P. W. Goldsmith, who is acting as executive officer in connection with the preliminaries for the formation of rbe West Coast Power Board, states that the petition asking for the constitution of he Boarij has now been approved by the Government. After certain particulars contained therein beten confirmed by the clerks of the local bodies concerned, the petition will bo circulated and steps taken to secure the required 20 per emit. of signatures of ratepayers in the area. Thereafter the Board will be constU tuted and will formulate its plans for the raising of a loan and the reticulation by transmission wires of (he district. As the area covered takes in the whole of the Horowhenua County, the most populous riding of the Manawatn County, inchiding Foxton seaside settlement, part of the Hult County, including Paekakariki, and other towns thereabouts, as well as the interior boroughs of Foxton, Shannon, Levin and Otaki, it will be seen that the preliminary work entails a vasti amount of detail. Matters are being expedited as much as possible, however, and it is anticipated that the district will be quite ready for the power when it is produced.
