CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir. —.Just a few lines re what appeal's to be an over-supply of dogs (1 mean tykes) in the main street of Foxton. As my business only requires my presence in Foxton at varied intervals, this great nuisance and danger to the public perhaps strikes me more forcibly Ilian the average citizen. 1 say advisedly there are more mongrel dogs allowed to roam the streets of Foxton than any other town in the Dominion. A few years ago, in our local police’court, where a man was fined for stabbing a dog with a pitchfork (cruelty to dumb animals), and when the owner was asked to state the breed of the dog, fie said “his mother was a pug, and he never knew his father.” I mention tlds case because the majority of dogs in Foxton undoubtedly can be described as “breed unknown.” Yesterday morning I counted no less than eight dogs attacking a horse and cart as it passed through the main street. Now, Sir, I maintain there is great danger attached to this, and the owners of these tykes should be prosecuted, and I hope the matter will be taken up by the Council and deal) with in no uncertain manner. —I am. etc., W. PETRIE.
