MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE

HAMILTON GIRL MISSING.

THE BODY AT BIRKENJIEAD

Mystery surrounds the disappearance of a young woman, Myrtle Underhill .Inglis, aged about 20 years, who has been away from her home in Hamilton since 3rd inst. Miss Inglis, who was a prepossessing young lady, of quiet disposition, was living with her mother in Hinemoa Street, having arrived there about 18 months ago from the Thames, where her father, who died u short time ago, formerly kept the Junction Hotel. Miss Inglis had many friends in Hamilton. She left her home here early in June to attend the Auckland races and spend a holiday visiting friends in the city.

A few days ago, having heard no word from her daughter, Mrs Inglis became anxious, and made inquiries among friends in the city. Iho same answer came back to each inquiry, that nothing had been seen of Myrtle Inglis. The mothen then communicated with the police, with the result that the body of a young woman recovered from the water at Birkenhead about ten days ago is said to have boon positively identified as that of Miss Inglis. Injuries to the hc-ud have led to the suspicion that the unfortunate girl may have met hex' death by foul play.

The mother of the missing girl has gone to Auckland. Inquiries made by the police discount any theory of foul play. The medical evidence following the post-mortem, it. is said, shows that death ensued from drowning, and that there was nothing to indicate any supposition of violence.
