THE MISSING CANASTOTA.
NO NEWS RECEIVED,
There is still no news of the American steamer Ganastota, which left Sydney for Wellington on 13th June, and has not since been heard of. m nrllinll lpfl"
The cruiser Chatham, which left for Auckland about 2.30 yesterday morning, via Cook Styait, .is pursuing a westerly course so as to cover as much sea-distance as bet-coal will allow, in the hope of picking up the missing steamer.
A . message from Sydney states no news has been received of the overdue Canastota, which is carrying a cargo of fifty thousand cases of benzine. The, consensus of opinion in shipping circles is that the vessel has met with a mishap disabling her machinery, and making it impossible to use her, wireless apparatus, and is proceeding slowly to port. The following mails were despatched from Sydney by the Canastota, which left that port on the 13th June:—For Auckland, 14 bags and 13 parcels receptacles; for Wellington, 19 bags and 5 parcels receptacles; for other places, 13 bags and IS parcels receptacles.
