WRITTEN BY SOLDIERS’ WIVES. /- '
The following extracts are from letters written by soldiers’ wives to the officers concerned with the payment of separation allowances diu’ing the recent war: — “I have not received no pay since my husband went from nowhere.” “My husband has been away at Crystal Palace and got for days furlong and now has gone away to the mind sweepers.” “We have received your letter. I am his grandfather and his grandmother. fie was born and brought up in this house in answer to your letter.” “In accordance with instructions ring paper, I have given birth to a daughter on the first, April.” “You have changed my little boy into a little girl, will it make any difference.”
“My Bill has been put in charge off a spittoon, shall I get more pay.”
“Will you send my money as early as possible, as I am walking about Bolton like a pauper, and oblige.” “Unless I receive my husband’s pay at once, I shall be compelled to lead an immortal life.” “When I received your letter I was ill in bed with Happendesiltis. It will be very useful now.” “Just a few lines to say that owing to your delay in sending my money we have not a morsel of food in the house, hoping yOu are the same.”
“In answer to your letter I have given birth to twins. Hoping this will be satisfactory.”
