FOOTBALL.
About 12,000 people witnessed the annual Wanganui-To Aute collegiate junior and senior football matches at the Palmerston Show grounds yesterday. Wanganui juniors defeated Te Aute by 11 to 3, but the tables were turned in the senior match, when Te Aute defeated Wanganui by 23 points to 0. At times the latter game was very spectacular, and despite a greasy ground and ball, some splendid open play was witnessed. Te Aute were the aggressors throughout, and made the pace a cracker. They were undoubtedly the superior team in tactics, each man knew what he had to do, and did it, whereas there was a good deal of hesitancy on the part of Wanganui. Rangi, an exPalmerston High School player, made sure work with his place kicking, The game on the whole was very strenuous, and had it been a dry field Te Aute’s score would have been much higher.
