FOXTON JUNIORS 12 V. OTAURU " JUNIORS 3.
Foxton Juniors met Otauru last Saturday on the race course, in the presence of a large number of spectators, and defeated the visitors by 12 points to 3.
Foxton won the toss, and elected to play with the su,^*behind them. From the kick-off the visitors showed their willingness, but Foxton was equally keen and play hovered about mid-field for a while, until the local forwards carried the leather to within the visitors’ 25, where a free kick was awarded Foxton. Hirini took the kick, and was successful in piloting the leather over the iron I. Foxt on 3—Otauru nil. On resuming play, Otauru tried very hard to open up play b.v letting their backs handle the ball as much ns possible, but luck never came their way, and the result was they failed on more Ilian three occasions to obtain the desired effect. Foxton again engineered another forward rush, and within the visitors’ territory a free-kick was awarded to them, and this time Fountain drop-kicked the ball and duly landed the extra points. Foxton C —Otauru nil.
Up to the whistle for half time no further score was registered. The second half commenced at 3,40, and daylight was waning. Mr Buckman, the Shannon Junior star, stood on the race course -with a maroon jersey under his arm, and, unlike Joshua, he failed to influence the sun, but was successful in staying the moon and all the stars, except Kopu. Like the old Roman leaders, he urged the Haeramais to do wondrous things, but his many exhortations were fruitless. Shortly after the commencement of the second half the local forwards set up a very furious rush, and “Little Jim,” who was always there and in the thick of it, embraced the oval over the line. The kick al goal failed. Foxton o—Otauru nil.
The Ilaeremais also put up a strenuous attack, and brought play to within the Foxton 25 line, and from a line-out a visiting forward secured the leather and streaked for lhe line unopposed, with Shammy a few inches oft. The kick at goal failed. Foxton 9 —Otauru 3. The local lads came again shortly afterwards, and between Fountain and Green another try for Foxton was registered. The kiek at goal proved a failure. Foxton 12— Otauru 3. From this'out no further score was registered, and at 5.20 Mr Reeves sounded no-time.
