li is now t)ll years since Rev. Samuel Leigh first established the Methodist Church >in New Zealand at Kaeo, AAliangaroa. Afetthodists in all parts of the Dominion are now planning to celebrate the centenary of the Church in 1922. At the last Methodist Conference it was decided to send a delegation of three — Revs. A. C. La wry, T. G. Brooke, and \A'. A. Sinclair—to visit all the churches in New Zealand in order to prepare them for the approaching centenary, and further t 5 endeavour to, raise the sum of £45,000 to assist in the many activities of the Church, particularly in relation to the Superannuation Fund, the Theological College, Home and Foreign Alissions, work among the Alaoris, and the local Preachers’ Mutual Aid Association. The centenary effort in this connection will last over two years, in order that full time may he given to go through the whole of the country seeking to lift up and inspire all the churches. It is proposed to invite visitors from England, America, Australia and Tonga to be present at a centenary conference to be held at Auckland on February Ist, 1922. A memorial church is to be built at Kaeo, iu honour of the founder of the Church in New Zealand, and the official members of the conference will go there to open it. in a fitting manner. It is of interest to know that at the inaugural meeting before the last conference it was reported that £IO,OOO had already been raised towards the sum wanted. Sendees in connection with the centenary will be held iu the local Alet hodist Church this * evening, at 7.30 o’clock, and will he conducted by the Rev. G. S. Cook, of Palmerston N. The chair will be occupied by the Alayor (Air John Chrystall), and the choir will render an anthem. A collection in aid of the Centenary f und will be taken up at the close of the service.
