The ret uni match was played in Levin on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the home side by 6 to nil. The Foxton team left' home with only thirteen players. One emergency was picked up on the ground, and they played with only fourteen men throughout. The game was mostly a forward one, but the operation of the new rules caused a lot of unintentional infringement and the holding up of the play. The Foxton backs played with a lot more combination than the Wanderers, Moses, Taylor and Burgess being particularly prominent, whilst Stratford as wing forward yas a tower of strength. Of the Wanderers’ forwards, Campion and Rangi Broughton were noticeable throughout the game, and Armstrong showed better form. In the first half Hera scored from a scramble near the Foxton line, but no goal resulted., The Wanderers’ second score came from a penalty kick by L. McDonald. The local backs did not get a great deal of the ball, and even then failed to make much n.-o of it. Mr W. Thomson refereed.
At a meeting of the Ilorowhenua Referees’ Association, among the correspondence was a letter from one of the se'nior clubs, asking for change of referee for their match. Tt was decided that in future all appointments should be adhered to.
The secretary was instructed to write to the Rugby Union, drawing attention to the practice of coach' -i for the lower grade teams questioning the rulings of the referees, This step was taken because of a. complaint against a coach at Foxton.
It- was decided to suggest to the Rugby Union that all matches except fourth grade should be scheduled to commence tit 2.45 p.m., and when possible, fourth grade to be taken at 2 p.m.
Arrangements have been made for two of the prominent referee.: to address players and others interested in the game on (he new rules, in the Town Hall supper-room tomorrow (Wednesday) evening, at 7.30 o’clock. All players, and particularly the younger players, are specially invited to be present.
FOXTON v. SHANNON.
Under the supervision of Mr F. Williams. Foxton toured to Shannon last Saturday to play the Shannon Juniors, and the match resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. Owing to the greasy nature of the field, the play was confined to the forwards. There were only two occasions in which things looked ugly for Foxton, hut beyond this Shannon had all the uncertainties. The game was ably refereed by Mr J. Seitteia, who possessed all the good qualities of a first-rate referee.
