An elderly man, Gerald Griffin, was arrested in Otaki on Sunday for drunkenness, and placed in the police colls. He appeared in good health, and being with other prisoners was frequently visited by Constable Sat ton-ley. This officer visited the cells just before G p.m. ofi Sunday, and found the man almost dead. He did everything possible, but to no purpose, and by the time Dr, Sharp arrived the man was dead. A post mortem examination was made this morning, and an inquest will bft*»held later. It is stated that Griffin, who lived ill Tnihape, was worth from £30,000 to £4o.ooo.—Mail.
