FIRE AT THE SEASIDE
STORE AND POST OFFICE . DESTROYED.
At an early hour on- Sunday morning the combined store and post office at the local seaside,,
gether with contents remaining therein, were totally destroyed. The origin of the fire is a mystery. The store was closed about 5.30 p.m. on Saturday by Mr and Mrs Wishart, when everything appeared to be in order, the postmistress, Miss Reeve, having left a half-hour earlier.
The store was taken over from Miss Reeve on the first instant by Mr AT. E. Perreau, who owned the premises, and AL - and Mrs M isliart were placed in charge. Some of Miss Reeve’s furniture had been removed, and there was no one living on the premises at the time of the outbreak. The stock and furniture was insured by Miss Reeve for £3OO in the Commercial Union.
An insurance of £SOO in Ihe Guardian Office on the building was held by Mr Perreau, who estimates his loss at £4OO.
