Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, MAY 21, 1921. W.E.A. MISDIRECTED.

AT the last meeting ul' the Levin Borough Council objection was made to a grunt of £ls towards the* W.E.A. on the grounds that the newly-appointed tutor was accused of .teaching “revolution.” After a somewhat warm debate the grant was passed, and it was left for the W.E.A. officials to deal with the tutor if lie overstepped the mark. That the W.E.A. is worthy of support from an educational point of view no one will deny, but if these classes are to be the means of propagating disloyal and revolutionary propaganda by tutors, then the sooner they are switched off the better. One vital condition that should attach to the appointment of a tutor is loyalty to King and Constitution, The study of* economics and constitutional history opens the way for a biased tutor with revolutionary leanings to ring in dangerous side lines calculated to influence untrained minds in revolutionary short cuts to somilled emancipation. The W.E.A. classes are worthy of encouragement. so long as they are not used by cranks for revolutionary propaganda.
