TREE-PLANTING.
THE UNEMPLOYMENT CAMP AT HDHTANGI.
MEN NOW AT WORK,
The tree-planting camp recently established at Himatangi, as a part of the Government's scheme for dealing with the unemployed, is now in operation. Twenty-live of the men who have applied at the Labour Bureau in Wellington for work within the last week have been sent to the camp, where their labours are being directed by forestry officers. Men who are fit for work of a more severe nature have been sent to road works at Akatarawa.
The number of men to be employed. at Himitangi will depend upon the demand for employment during the winter months. It is anticipated that an important beginning will be made with the afforestation of the.sand-dune areas. The arrangements that have been made by the Defence Department for the housing of the men are reported to be quite adequate, though a certain amount of discomfort in wet weather may be unavoidable.
