FOOTBALL.

1 A meeting of the Management Committee of the Horowhenua Ru'gby Union was held at Foxton on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs J. W. Procter (chairman), R. Ford, T. Dalzell, F. I). AVhibley, Gustofson, K. George, Rowlands, and W. Wehipihana (secretary). An application from the AVeraroa Club to have their home matches played on the AVeraroa gTound was granted subject to the club putting the ground in order and providing gatekeepers without cost to tint Union.

Mr T. AVehipelmna, referee in the Hui Mai-AVaikanae match, played last Saturday, reported having ordered Runa Tamuki, a AA'aikenae player, off the field for rough play. He asked that the player be treated as leniently as possible. —It. was decided to suspend the player for two playing Saturdays. A letter was read from the Manawatu Union in reply to the Horowhenua Union’s request to have players- residing within the Horowhenua boundaries prevented from playing in the Manawatu competitions, advising that it was found upon investigation that two of the players (Carrolls) resided within, the Manawatu boundaries and were playing for a Manawatu club. The other two players (Larkins and Fitzgerald) resided within the Horowhenua boundaries, but lmd played in the Manawatu competitions for years, and if they could not play there they would not play at all. Manawatu therefore asked for permission for these players to continue playing in Palmerston. It was pointed out that the statements contained in the Manawatu Union’s letter were not correct, as both Fitzgerald and Larkins had joined the Foxton Club, and the latter played for Foxton against Tokomaru last Saturday. In regard to Carroll Bros., it was contended that they do reside within the Horowhenua boundaries, and it was decided to again write the Manawatu Union asking that they he prevented from playing m their competitions, and failing a satisfactory reply the matter he referred to the • Ne\V Zealand Rugby Union. The Bush Union wrote, asking Horowhenua to suggest n suitable date for a senior representative game at Levin. —It. was decided to suggest Wednesday, June Bth. The question of the classification of players was then dealt with, the first name brought up being Larsen, of Otaki. The player in question wrote stating that he now Jiad to travel 14 miles to play, and as there was no senior team within a further eight miles it would only mean tlnr ho would not be able to play football if he were classified. It was pointed out that la-4 year Larsen was selected as a junior rep., and all players who last year played as junior reps, should this year play as seniors. To allow these players to continue as juniors would kill senior football, as the clubs would eventually enter only junior teams. After a. good deai of discussion it was decided not to classify Larsen, only three. Messrs Procter, Ford and AVhibley. voting in favour of classification. Several oilier players wore considered, but only in the ease of D. Coe and Iletn was any alteration made, these players being classed as seniors. Air Whibley said that the playerconsidered should all have been ela-sitled —it was not right that players lit for senior grade should be allowed to play as juniors. The Union would have to take a firm stand, and one solution of the difficulty would be to refuse to allow a, junior team to play unless a senior team was also entered by the Club, He thought this matter should receive further consideration, and gave notice of motion to the effect that the resolutions passed be rescinded, and the whole matter of classification be reconsidered at the next meeting of the Committee. The applications of AY. Mira (Otauru) and S. Hoterini (Foxton)' for re.in.-datement n> juniors were

granted
