ALL SAINTS’ YOUNG MEN’S SOCIAL CLUB.

A meeting was held in All Saints’ schoolroom last night for the purpose of forming a Young Men’s Club. There was a fair attendance of young men and members of the Vestry. The Vicar was voted to the chair, and in a few words placed before his hearers the object of the Club. He quoted examples from similar organisations which he had helped to initiate, and which to-day were flourishing concerns. The in!on ion was to encourage social intercourse amongst the young men, and incidentally to help them by such things as mock parliament, mock council meetings, mock court cases, lectures and literature, to fit themselves for those positions which he fell sure some of his hearers would some day occupy. Ho was not going to make an appeal for funds; the Club would have to be self-supporting, and its governing committee would have to consist of young men selected from its own active members. He presented forms of syllabus from other Tent res, which had proved successful, and suggested the adoption of a similar programme, which he knew would be fascinating and enjoyable.

It was then moved that the Club be formed, and when this was carried unanimously the meeting proceeded to the election of officers, which resulted as follows: —Presikmf, Rev. \V. 11. Walton; vice-pro-* -ideals, Messrs Barber. Carter. Christie, Furrie, Moorhouse, Tyer and Fountain; secretary, Mr Hughes; treasurer, Mr Ken. Robinson; committee: Messrs J. Burr, J. Christie; J. Crowe, Cecil Francis, Cecil Wilson, H. Wright. The subscription was fixed at 5s per annum for members 18 years of age and over, 2s 6d per annum for those under 18 years.

It was arranged for the Committee to meet on Thursday next, tit 8 o'clock, at the vicarage, to draw rip rules, etc., and to hold by way of an opening night, a smoke concert in the schoolroom on Monday next, to which all young men would be invited.
