Thence the water will pass under the Tokomaru ridge by means of a tunnel a mile iong to the Arapeti Valley. Here it will be contained in the second dam, and will be led though another tunnel a mile and a-half long to the surge chamber on he shannon side of .the ranges. Tile pipe lines carry the water thence down the hill side, a drop of 900 feet to the generating plant at the foot, whence the transmission lines will radiate all over the country. Approximately 24,000h.p. will be developed, of which half will be absorbed by Wellington city.
