An adjournment for a week \vaapplied for when the charges of publishing and selling a document, which was alleged to express seditious intention, were preferred against Patrick 11. Hickey and John Glover, two prominent Labour men, in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Air F. K. Hunt, S.AL This course was not objected to by Chief-Detective Ward, who appeared for the police, and, consequently, Hickey and Glover, who were, represented by Mr E. H. Haigli (acting under instructions from Mr P. J. O’Regan), will appear again on Friday next. The rear portion of the Court was crowded, the anticipation being apparently that the case would be proceeded with. The charges against Hickey were: “(1) That on 19th October, 1920, he did print and publish to Constable Robert M. Ambrose a document — ‘The Irish Tragedy. Scotland’s Disgrace’—which expresses a seditious intention, contrary to the War Regulations No. 4 of the War Regulations dated 20th September, 1915, as continued in force-in the second schedule to the War Regulations Continuance Act, 1920; (2) did print and publish the same document- ‘which encourages violence and lawlessness, contrary to the same War Regulations.’ ” The charges against GJpver were of a similar' nature, the only difference being that the charge in this case was one of selling the documents to the constable.
