Mitchell Lewis is featured in tonight's big story of the northern pine forests, “Nine Tenths of the Law.” His performance in "The Barrier” is still a lingering memory —it was one of the finest pieces of characterisation the screen has ever presented. Now in this present feature he bids fair to outdo his previous success. The role of Leueau is similar to that of “Poleon,” and time and experience have left their mark, with the result that the portrayal of Leneau displays finer depths of feeling and a keener insight into the nature of the French Canadian. No one need be afraid that “Nine Tenths of the Law” will not furnish full measure of enjoyment. Its theme is so big that it is bound to get over, and universally please.
On Monday night a Theda Kara super-production will be screened, a William Fox production, “La Bello Russe.” This is the photoplay version of the famous Belasco stage success of the same name. It is the story of a dancer whose marriage to a nobleman brings upon her husband the contempt of his family. He is disinherited, and she struggles with him faithfully through poverty and privation, secretly giving dancing lessons' so that they may not starve. War tears the husband from her side, and she continues her struggle bravely so that her baby hoy may not suffer hardship. The picture ends with a stirring climax which is said to come as a tremendous surprise. As an extra, the Sunshine comedy, “Through the Keyhole,” will be screened. The prices of admission will be 2s and * Is, plus tax, children half-price.
