A SUBMARINE TRAGEDY.

The loss of the British submarine K 5 in the Atlantic on January 20th Inns been investigated by the Admiralty, and while'the exact caustrof the disaster cannot be ascertained, owing to the death of all hands, certain conclusions have been 1 cached, partly by a process of elimination. The vessel had been refitted in December, and had afterwards exercised both alloat and submerged. The official statement shows that the evidence established that she was not sunk by collision with any other vessel, borne loss of trim or of control may have occurred, while submerged, which e a used the vessel to reach a depth -at which the external pressure would become too great, and destruction would quickly follow. Ihe Admiralty, observes that “the great ,-ize of fiie K submarines naturally makes their management when diving more difficult than in the ease of the smaller submarines. This is one of the chief technical problems that have to lie solved in increasing the size of submarines.”
