Sir. —Would some of those men at present working on -the sewerage works be kind enough to explain why it is that they shut the flaxmills up by refusing to work for 14s per day,- and take a job navvying at the same wage as was offered by the millers. As to the work, there is no comparison, and judging by the blistered hands and aching backs they are out of the fryingpan into the lire. There’s the other aspect of the case, the flaxie who was forced out by them has now the pleasure of walking about while others of the same calling are working at the reduced wage. Verily the toiler is aptlv described as a MULE.
