CARNIVAL NOTES
CORONATION REHEARSAL,
A rehearsal of those taking part in the coronation ceremony to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday night, took place yesterday afternoon. Mrs S. Easton, a former queen candidate in the big queen competition held at Wellington, put the queen candidates and others through their various movements — a somewhat difficult task-. Those taking part shaped very well, and with another rehearsal, to be held on Thursday afternoon, should become fairly efficient. Mr Hornblow is to officiate as Director of Ceremonies, and the Mayor and Messrs Moorhouse, Rev.' Walton, Perreau and others will carry out the duties of officers in waiting. An orchestra conducted by Mr H. Osborne wilt provide appropriate music, and •several vocal items will be rendered during the ceremony. Mr J. Colder will officiate as trumpeter. Royal honours will be bestowed upon those representing the various Committees during the evening. Special dresses have been hired for the Coronation pageant, and these, together with pages and flower girls, should present a very fine effect. FIBRE QUEEN. A successful street day was held on Saturday, and badges sold like hot cakes. The table centre competition was Avon by Mr M. Mandl, No. 02, and Mr W. Hynes, No. 83, Avon the other competition. FARMERS’ QUEEN. A most successful shop day was held on Saturday, under Messrs D. W. Robertson’s verandah, for whieh the Committee wish to tlmnk Mr Robertson for bis kindness in alloAving them to use same. The Committee also wish to thank the following donors for their much appreciated gifts to the shop, and also (hose avlio contributed and whose names Avert 1 unobtained: Messrs F. Lash, Furnell, E.. In order to have all money and donations in band in "time for the voting, the secretary, Mr R. Shaw, will be in attendance at the foot of the grand stand from 4 p.m. till 4.45 I urn, Avhcn all money must be paid -■in, as voting closes at 5 p.m. CITIZENS’ QUEEN. Everything is going along nicely with the Citizens’ Queen Committee, and they expect to put up a good fight for their nominee. The grand finale euchre party and dance to-night promises to he the most successful evening of the effort. Tickets are selling avcll, and the Committee hope all avlio possibly can will come along to-night and enjoy themselves. Ladies Is and a basket, gents 2s (id. Good prizes for euchre tournament; good music, • good floor, arid good “kai.” All members of the Committee are requested to meet an hour before dosing of poll at the bar on the racecourse, and must be sure and bring all money collected and art union tickets, raffles, etc. SPORTS QUEEN. The Sports Queen dance held last night in Levin proved a huge success, a number of Foxton residents making the trip over. . On the Gala ground to-morrow the Sports Avill have a number of -ide-shoAVs. such as hoop-la, weight lifting, darts, etc. The watch cora-
petition definitely closes to-morroAv. The result will be announced in the
evening. The Shop day held on Saturday was a big success. Competitions were run, Avith the following Avinuer.-: —Wall plaque, Mrs Walls; (■anarv and cage, Mr Nixon; dinner, Mr Hartley; lamb guessing, Mr Shaw: sheep guessing, Mr Reid.
We are asked to request: all trad-e-men and others avlio possess vehicles to decorate same, and take part in to-morrow’s- procession, which will leave the post office at 10 a.m. sharp. Give the procession a boo-t!
All ticket sellers and committees in connection with the queen carnical are requested to hand in cash and butts, and unsold tickets, to the * treasurer, Mr IV. Trueman, not later than 5 p.m. to-morroAv (Wednesday). The secretary of the Carnival Committee inserts an advertisement inviting all bandsmen Avilling to assist in the musical programme for (o-morroAv’s gala day to meet at the Town Hall at 7 o’clock this evenipg. It is hoped that all instrumentalists Avill roll up and render assistance in a. good cause. Gifts for the produce stall to be ’hicld at to-morroAv’s Carnival on the racecourse arc solicited. Light luncheon will be provided at the Gala Sports on the raceoourse to-morrow. Mrs AustinJohnston is in charge of this department. The price of admission .at tomorrow’s gala sports on the racecourse is Is, children half-price.
