CARNIVAL NOTES

FARMERS’ QUEEN. The public arc reminded of the (tance to lie held in the Town Hall this evening, in aid of the Farmers’ Queen candidate. Excellent music and a good floor will go towards making the dance a success. ' CITIZENS’ QUEEN. The Committee met on Thursday last, when it was decided to hold a Children’s Dance in the Masonic Hall. The children will have the floor from 7.30 p.iu. to 10 p.m., and the adults will continue the dance till midnight. Next committee meeting on Tliursdav evening. FIBRE QUEEN. The Shop Day under the auspices of the Fibre Queen Committee hold on Saturday was very successful, and the results are quite satisfactory. Numerous competitions were got off, the results of which are as follows Cake, No. I, Mrs Heasman: weight of sheep, 541 lbs.. Miss E. Kirini, \Y. McKnight, -J. Lyne; sucking, pig, 13 lbs., Mrs C. Rand, Mrs G. King. Mr J. Evans tea, Mr C. Quarfermnn, No. 33; box of cigarettes, No. *26, Mr Owen; painted Plaques, No. 49, Mr C. Whitehead; cigarette holder, 51, Mr T. Carter; painted cushion, No. 33, A. lloskings; dinner, No. 10, Mrs A. Spoil's, senr.; weight of marrow, 18 lbs., Miss E. Wright and Mr I). Christie tied, in the draw oil Miss E. Wright was the winner. The Committee desire to thank all those who assisted in any way to make the attain a success, and also those who sent gifts of produce, etc., and donations.

A river excursion will be held on Friday night next, at 8 o’clock. Fares will be 2s (id each. SPOKES QUEEN.

The Sport.- aVc holding a big dance in the Town Hall on Ihursday 31st, for which tickets are now on sale. Dancing will he continued until 2 a.in., and patrons can depend cn the usual first-rate floor, supper, and other arrangements. All are advised to secure tickets on the gold wristlet watch before the competition closes. Ladies should not miss having a ticket on hand-worked jumper, at present on view in Mrs Walls' window. POSITION OF FLAGS. During Saturday the position of the flags was: Citizens’ first. Sports second, and Farmers’ third, with Native and Fibre next. At the count held on Saturday evening the number of votes recorded was: Farmers' 4,640, Citizens’ 4,608, Sports 4,100, Native 1,888, Fibre 2,176. The grand total of votes recorded is 18,472.
