FATALITY AT TAURANGA. Tauranga, March 22. A tragedy occurred in the borough at 3.30 this morning. Neighbours in the vicinity heard two loud detonations, aitd shortly afterwards a cottage occupied by Edward Broadbent was discovered to be in flames. A search among the burning debris resulted in the finding of the body of Brondbent, which was practically unrecognisable, the limbs being burnt off. It is reported that he had been acting in a queer way lately, and that his wife and two children left him on Sunday night. The lessee of a Palmerston hotel recently retired, receiving £6,000 from his successor, ihe latter, after six months’ occupation, has now been bought out, and is said-to have netted £4,000 over the deal.— Manawatu Times.
