CARNIVAL NOTES
CITIZENS’ QUEEN,
There will ho a meeting of the Citizens’ Queen Committee at the Town Hall this evening. On Tuesday night a most enjoyable dance was held under the auspices of ilie Citizens’ Queen Committee, when there was a very satisfactory attendance. The arrangements had been well organised, and as a result the function was a complete success. Excellent music was supplied by Mr Carter, and Mr A. Smith officiated as M.C. A competition for the disposal of a safety razor was won by Mr R. Shaw. Dancers were refreshed with a tasfv supper, and the function was continued until the “wee sma’ hours" of flic morning. The Committee thank all those who contributed towards the success of the evening. FARMERS’ QUEEN. A dance will be held in the Town liall on Tuesday next, 29th inst., under the auspices of the Farmers’ Queen Committee. The arrangements are being planned to make the function a record success. FIBRE QUEEN. The Fibre Queen Committee have everything well in hand for their Shop Day on Saturday next, so the supporters and public- generally will he able to secure all they want for the Easier Sunday dinner and tea. NATIVE QUEEN. The Native Queen Committee are carrying on with their entertainments. They show at Levin this week, and expect a big house. SPORTS QUEEN. Owing to the inclement weather last, evening the Sports Committee were reluctantly forced to postpone the moonlight excursion till a future date, which will be advertised. Dancers and euchre players are reminded of the dance and euchre party to he held in the Town liall to-night, (Thursday). The floor is now in splendid order, and a good supper will be dispensed by the ladies committee. Both dancing and euchre will commence at S p.xn., dancing continuing till 12.
A football match with an outside team is being arranged in aid of the “light blues” candidate. GALA DAY.
The sports programme for Gala Day, at the race course, is now out, and nominations will be'taken by the secretary, Mr Roore, for decorated vehicles, tug-of-war, woodchopping and sawing events, which close on April 2nd.
