CARNIVAL NOTES

The. report of the polling Or morning is:—Sports Queen at the top, Farmers’ Queen 2nd, Citizens’ Queen 3rd, Fibre Queen 4th, Native Queen sth. There may he a great, change during the day. The number of votes recorded for each queen will he screened at the Town Hall to-night. SPORTS CANDIDATE. The Sports are holding a dance in the Masonic Hal! this evening. All arrangements are complete, and judging by the tickets .■-old the function promises to he a success. The gold wristlet watch, for which the Sports are. running a competition, is at present on view in Mrs Walls’ window. Filial announcements in connection with the monster moonlight marine excursion will he announced shortly. f ’ FIBRE CANDIDATE. A meeting of ladies will he held at the Town Hall on Monday evening on behalf of the Fibre Queen. All ladies interested arc* invited to attend.

NATIVE CANDIDATE. The Natives are doing good business at their concerts. They opened to a full house at Rangiotu last evening, and they also have other vote-catching stunts on liqnd.

CITIZENS’ CANDIDATE. It is shop day to-day, and good business is reported. Competitions: Bride and cake, the name of the doll was “Maude,” but as no one guessed the name further guessc-' will he taken, and the doll lias been given a new name; cake displayed by Mr Betty, this was won by Mrs Vertongen, No. 34: box of homemade sweets, won by Mrs Seabury, No. 03; crepe-de-cliene blouse, competition will be drawn this evening, and winner announced in the next issue. Don’t forget the bowling and croquet tournament on Wednesday next, also the children’s ball on tho 17th inst., in the Masonic Hall, and the brightest and best dance of the season, on Tuesday, 22nd March, in the Town Hall.

Next meeting of the Committee and all interested in tho Citizen's Queen will be held on Monday next, at 7.30 p.m., at Town Ilall.
