NATIVE BOY SERIOUSLY INJURED.
An unusual accident, but one attended with a good deal of danger, occurred on the Hokio beach on Sunday afternoon, reports the Chronicle. It appears that some native hoys were bathing in tin* surf, and one of the party named Pmt, 12 years of age, inadvertently stepped on a stingaree, which, following the habit of these fish, lie partly Imvied in (lie sand for hours at a time, and their colour being almost identical with that of the .-and. are difficult to defect. No sooner had the hoy touched the creature than'it struck ;\t him with its tail with the speed of lightning. As is well known, the tip of the tail is armed with a lance impregnated with poisonous matter. The precision of the thrust was only 100 accurate. for (lie lance pierced the upper part of the boy's thigh from, front to back. Luckily assistance was at hand, and the hoy brought in to Levin for medical attendance, when it was found that the wound was a dangerously septic one, and after receiving the necessary attention the sufferer was sent on to the Palmerston North hospital.
