A local team journeyed to Whitauuui on Saturday last to try conclusions with a Whitaunui team. The result of the match was a win for the home team by 30 runs, the total scores being Whitaunui 118, Foxton 82. The visitors were entertained to afternoon tea by the ladies, and altogether a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. The state of the wicket was somewhat disconcerting for the local eleven, the narrowness of the concrete section and an elevated edge thereto causing the ball to break in a baffling manner, which accounted for the untimely fall of more than one wicket. ‘However, the Whitaunui team showed evidence of general superiority over their opponents, and earned their win. If is understood that a return match is to be played on the Victoria Park pitch on Saturday next. Detailed scores are not at present available, but will probably be published in our next issue. A practice will be held on the Victoria Park Pitch on Thursday evening.
