ROYAL PICTURES
No author of American fiction of - fers a more fertile field for the drama list than does Bret Ilarte, whose tales of the West of the nineteenth century are classics. One of the greatest of Harte’s tales, “Marujn.” has been dramatised for the screen under the title of “The Grey Wolf's Ghost,” and will be screened at the Royal on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. 11. B. Warner assumes the role of Harry West in this production, which is from the Hampton studios. In the screen form the story takes on a vitality and picturesqueness which heightens the dramatic effect, and lends colour to a graphic tale. Additional interest is given to the production, due to the fact that the locations used are identical with those of Harte’s story, and the atmosphere of the Californian days is reflected in every detail. Mr Warner is admirably cast in the role of Harry West, the stranger who, going in search of his father, by whom he and his mother had been deserted, to demand an account of his stewardship of his mother’s fortune, becomes involved in the machinations of a half-crazed Spaniard fanatic. Accused of his father's murder, and about to be lynched, he is stive d by one of the strangest and most unusual dramatic contretemps ever utilised in drama and fiction. As an extra, a further episode of “The Vanishing Dagger” will shown.
