CARNIVAL NOTES

The state of the poll on Saturday evening when the numbers were screened was: Sports on top with 2,000 votes. Citizens .1,000, Farmers 480, Fibre 394, Native 160. On Monday morning the Farmers took up the running, and were in the lead bv noon.

The Farmers' Queen dance takes place at the Town Hall 10-night, and promises lo be a great turn-mil, bringing in lots of country residents in addition to townspeople, and altogether should be a record.

To-morrow evening the Fibre Queen Concert, in conjunction with Dorothy Dalton, at the Town Hall, should draw a good house. A very fine programme has been arranged, including vocal items by some of our best local talent.

A very successful shop day was held on Saturday by the Committee, of the Farmers’ Queen candidate, the takings for the day being exceptionally good. A goodly supply of all farm produce, and numerous guessing competitions resulted in a number of votes being secured for the queen. The results of the various competitions are as follows: — Pig, weight 031b5., AVillmr Wright, Airs Barnard; sucking pig, No. 46, O’Jacobson; dinner, No. 73,1. Cochran; box chocolates, No. 48, G. Edwards; camisole; No. 98, Airs Jonson; pair turkeys, No. 11G, E. A. Hynes; sheep, weight, 441b5., F. Shaw, Air F. Smith, Air Dudson, and Aliss Upton; rooster, weight 7lbs., Air F. Smith.
