SHIPPING HOLD-UP.
The following boats were idle at Wellington yesterday : Ruahine (New Zealand Shipping Company), to complete loading for Home.
Northumberland (New Zealand and African Company), to continue the discharge of her cargo from New York.
Pnkelm (Shaw, Savill and Albion Company), to complete loading for Home.
Rona, barque (Scales, Ltd), to discharge coal from Newcastle. The vessel is anchored in the stream.
Athenic (Shaw, Savill and Albion Company), to commence the discharge of her cargo from the United Kingdom. Garbeta (Union Company), to discharge coal from Newcastle. The vessel is at present in the stream. Koranui (Union Company), to discharge coal from Newcastle. Moana (Union Company), to discharge cargo from Sydney. In the case of the Moana, the cargo of fruit and other perishable goods are being discharged by the Union Company’s own staff, and the vessel will sail from Wellington this afternoon on the return trip to Sydney. The general cargo brought by the Moana will have to be returned to Sydney.
Two overseas steamers —the Durham and Somerset—left Wellington yesterday, the former for Liverpool, and the latter for London.
Units of the coastal fleet at present idle at Wellington are as follow:—Komata (with coal from Westport), Opawa, Blenheim, WalaTtu, Kannn (with sugar from Auckland), Wairau, Wootton, Baden Powell, and Invercargill. Carrying firms have given their drivers a week’s notice, and shipping companies have decided to pay otf crews failing an immediate settlement.
