OTAKI HOSPITAL

The long-delayed controversy concerning the existence of the Otaki Hospital was settled at the Hospital Board meeting at Palmerston on Thursday. The arrangement, which was unanimously agreed to, is as follows: That, the Palmerston North Hospital Board pay the Health Department a maintenance rate of 9s per day for each patient admitted t.o the Otaki Hospital from the Palmerston North Hospital district. Dr. Valintine explained that the district board would receive the hospital maintenance levy which it collected from the Horowhenua district, with the Government' subsidy, and in addition the fees collected from patients admitted to the Otaki Hospital. This relieves the board of the responsibility of the management.
