TOWN PLANNING LECTURE.
TOWN HALL, TO-NIGHT. Good environment and healthy surroundings are becoming more and more recognised as among the primary factors in moulding the national character, and so in the more advanced countries particular attention is being paid to these matters by town-planners. What can be done in this way is exemplified in many of the newer American cities to-day, the builders of which have the advantage of the latest ideas and thoughts of planners and beautifying expert.-', with the result that the garden city, far from being a myth, is very much of a reality at
the present time. With the idea of introducing town-planning schemes in the Dominion, the Town-Planning Association of New Zealand was formed some years ago, of which Mr Leigh Hunt, of Wellington, is one of the most prominent members, as well as being president of the Wellington Town Planning Association. Mr Hunt will’deliver a lecture in the Town Hall this evening, under the auspices of the Borough Council, Chamber of Commerce and Beautifying Society. His subject will be “Town Planning,” and should be of particular interest to Poxton residents at the present time when schemes for the beautification of the town are under consideration. Air Hunt is an enthusiast on this subject, and his work has been so good that lie has been appointed president of the Wellington Association for a second term. It was this body that was mainly responsible for the visit to the Dominion of the eminent town-planning lecturers, Messrs Kendo and Davidge, and also did a lot to hying about the .successful conference held by the Government last year* in Wellington. In addition to town-planning, a live interest is taken by the Association in all municipal affairs, and everything possible is done to foster a proper civic pride in the people of Iho Empire City. .
Mr Hunt’s lecture, which will he free, will lie illustrated by a set of lantern slides, and an invitation is extended !o every citizen who has the welfare of Poxton at heart.
