BOROUGH WORKS.
The road foreman’s report as follows was read and adopted at last night’s Council meeting: — 1
“During the past month the road staff have been engaged in t the following works: Completing the grading and asphalting of Park Street footpath, weeding water tables and footpaths Hall and Wharf Streets, mixing asphalt in Council yard, filling in ruts in Lady’s Mile and Purcell Street. We have also pulled down the chimneys on the Council’s section, which were unsafe. In respect to pipe culvert at back of gas works, we had a considerable amount of excavating to bring the pipes in a line with those leading from Main Street culvert. We have placed all the pipes in position, resting on a concrete base, and joined them up. Me are now tilling in the12ft. at the eastern end, as instructed by the Council. It will need several hundred yards of spoil to fill in lhe whole length. During the ensuing month I intend to proceed with the asphalting of the road in front of the Town Hall (we have tarred metal ready for this), and to fix scats in the Triangle. We also intend to trim up rough metal in Purcell and Johnston Streets, Sandon and Avenue Roads, and to put more clay blinding on same, and to do general maintenance work and make an early start with the clearing of drains.
