GREY MATTER.
We get six complete new -ets of brains every year, and the best set is that which has its first half of life in December or Alarch. Our worst brain set is in August-Sept-ember, or the September-October one. In a “thinking” lifetime of fifty years a mental worker would collect, in his grey matter some 3,200,000,000 impressions, and if his brain were of average weight, just over 4!bs., each grev grain would contain 200,000 ! The female brain i>, on the average, 5 ounces less in weight than the male brain, but what is lost in weight is gain in quality, the brain of a woman being of much higher specific gravity than that of a man. Also, the female brain is larger than a man’s when body-weight is contrasted. A ten-stone.woimui has a better brain than a ten-stone man. The fact that idiocy and lunacy is much less among women than men is accounted for by the fact that when the weight of a man’s brain falls below 37A ounces it is microcephalic, and idiocy begins. A woman’s brain could fail to 32A ounces before the like would happen. From the age of thirty to fortylive the male brain is superior to the female brain, but alter that age the lass in brain weight is heavier on the male side, so that by the lime three score years and ten is reached the female brain is superior.
