SUPREME COURT SENTENCES.
TAYLOR SENTENCED TO 12 MONTHS. (By Telegraph —Special to Herald) Wellington, This Afternoon. At the Supreme Court this morning, John Taylor, for assault and robbery at Foxton, had nothing to say in extenuation of his offence. The Crown Prosecutor said the prisoner had been living nearly all his* life with Maoris, and was unable to read and write, and appeared to be on the down grade. He was sentenced to twelve months hard labour. CARTERTON MURDER CASE. In the Carterton murder case, Thompson was sentenced to seven years’ hard labour. RAILWAY EMPLOYEE GETS TWELVE MONTH'S. John Lawrence Sullivan, ex-rail-way employee, for forgery and theft, was sentenced to twelve months on each of two charges. EX-TOWN CLERK GETS TWO YEARS. i James Archer, ex-borough engineer, Masterton, on fourteen charges of forgery, was sentenced to two years’ hard labour.
